The wordpress also allows you to crop the image if it is bigger than the required. If the size is perefect then you can save it.

Now you can preview your changes. It should appear on the site.

Adding Favicon to Your Site can be tricky on older version. Adding Favicon to Your Site can be achieved using codes and using plugins.

Adding Favicon to Your Site with older WordPress Installation with codes

Adding Favicon to Your Site with codes is pretty simple if you are comfortable with codes. The first thing to do is uploading the favicon to your root directory. Once the favicon is uploaded check the url to verify the upload. It should be some thing like below

Remember to replace the favicon.ico with your image name. If the upload is fine than this will yield the image in the browser. Once this is done you can copy paste the below code in your header.php file. Paste these line just above the ending head tag which looks like “</head>

<link rel="icon" href="http://www.yoursite.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.yoursite.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

I know some of you may be confused as to where is header.php file. Or you may not want to deal with codes. It is absolutely okay.

Now since you do not want to edit header.php. You will need to install and activate plugin Insert Headers and Footers.

After installing and activating the plugin go to admin >>settings >> Inser Headers and Footers. Paste the above code in the header section and save it.

There are others plugins to add favicon too but this one seems pretty promising to me.
