Favicon, also known as site icon is a small image or size 16px by 16px that appears beside the title of your site. It helps to identify your site at a look. The frequent visitor may not look at the url, but will know that they are at your site looking at the favicon. Its an instant recognition tool. It helps your brand to stand out. It helps build trust among your visitors. I have come across many users who does have problems adding favicon to their WordPress sites. It is fairly simple to do do,if you know how. I will try to explain in simple way so you find it less confusing and more helpful.

Here you can change the site name and tagline too.
The wordpress also allows you to crop the image if it is bigger than the required. If the size is perefect then you can save it.
Now you can preview your changes. It should appear on the site.

Adding Favicon to Your Site with codes is pretty simple if you are comfortable with codes. The first thing to do is uploading the favicon to your root directory. Once the favicon is uploaded check the url to verify the upload. It should be some thing like below
Remember to replace the favicon.ico with your image name. If the upload is fine than this will yield the image in the browser. Once this is done you can copy paste the below code in your header.php file. Paste these line just above the ending head tag which looks like “</head>”

I know some of you may be confused as to where is header.php file. Or you may not want to deal with codes. It is absolutely okay.

After installing and activating the plugin go to admin >>settings >> Inser Headers and Footers. Paste the above code in the header section and save it.
There are others plugins to add favicon too but this one seems pretty promising to me.
